Three quarters of our week looks like this

Field notes from the jobs we are booked for most often. If your problem looks like one of these, say so in the form and we will send the right crew.

Electrician working inside an open consumer unit, connecting circuit breakers to busbar terminals.
Boards & protectionOld rewireable fuseboxes swapped for RCBO boards with a surge device, labelled schedule and a tested circuit list.
Warm pendant lamps hanging over a living room, lit in the early evening.
Lighting & dimmingPendant drops, track runs and outdoor PIR, with dimmer and driver compatibility checked against the lamps you actually bought.
Engineer in a hard hat recording test readings on a tablet beside industrial equipment.
Testing & reportsInspection and testing with every reading recorded on site, so the report you receive matches what the instruments read.

Scope

What we're called out for

Each lane below lists what is included and how long we hold the diary for it. If a job needs longer, we tell you before the day, not during it.

  • Consumer unit upgrades

RCBO board, surge protection, main bonding checked and brought up to size, circuits identified and labelled, certificate issued on completion.

    Half day held
  • Fault finding

Tripping circuits, nuisance RCD trips, intermittent lighting and dead sockets. We trace and isolate the fault first, then quote the repair in writing.

    Two hours held
  • Lighting & dimming

New pendant and track runs, under-cabinet strips, outdoor and PIR lighting, plus dimmer-to-driver matching for LED loads that flicker or buzz.

    Half day held
  • Sockets, spurs & kitchen circuits

Extra sockets and USB outlets, appliance spurs, cooker and oven points, and separate circuits where a kitchen has outgrown the one it was built with.

    Two to four hours held
  • EV charge points

Single-phase units with a load assessment, earthing arrangement confirmed, cable route agreed with you on site, and the notification handled on your behalf.

    Full day held
  • Testing & certification

Periodic inspection for owners and landlords, remedial lists written in plain language, and minor works certificates for anything we alter.

    Half to full day held

Certification

What the codes on your report mean

Inspection reports are written to a standard, not to be readable. Here is the short version, so nobody can use a code to sell you a rewire you don't need.

Every inspection we carry out ends with a schedule of circuits, the readings we measured, and a list of observations. Each observation carries a classification code. The code decides whether something is urgent, planned, or simply noted.

  • C1Danger present. Risk of injury now — we make it safe before we leave the property and tell you what we did.
  • C2Potentially dangerous. Not live danger today, but it needs remedial work. This is the list worth budgeting for.
  • C3Improvement recommended. The installation is not unsafe; it simply doesn't meet the current standard. Optional.
  • FIFurther investigation required. Something couldn't be confirmed on the day and needs a return visit to resolve.

A report full of C3 observations is not a failed installation, and an older board is not automatically a hazard. We quote the C1 and C2 items separately from the optional ones so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

Diary

Service windows

We book fixed windows rather than whole days. Pick the one that suits the property and we confirm it in writing, including who will be arriving.

  • Dawn slot 06:30 – 09:00 Board changes and isolations that need doing before a household or shop starts its day.
  • Mid-morning 09:00 – 12:00 Fault finding, socket and spur work, and inspections on occupied homes.
  • Afternoon 13:00 – 16:00 Lighting installs and second-fix work, including anything that needs daylight outdoors.
  • Saturday morning 07:00 – 12:00 By arrangement, for tenanted properties and premises that cannot lose power midweek.
  • Fault call-out Held daily One window kept free each day for no power, burning smells, or a circuit that will not stay in.
  • Full-day works 06:30 – 16:00 Charge points, rewires of individual circuits, and larger lighting schemes planned in advance.

Method

How a job runs

The same four steps whether it is one socket or a whole board, so you know what is happening in your property at every point.

  1. Tell us what's happening

Describe the problem in the form, or the work you want done. Photographs of the board and the affected area help us bring the right parts the first time.

  2. We confirm scope and window

You get a written scope, the price, and the window we are holding. Anything we cannot price without seeing it is listed as such, never hidden in a total.

  3. On the day

Dust sheets down, a notice on the board while circuits are dead, and readings taken before and after the work. We walk you through the change before we pack up.

  4. Paperwork and aftercare

Certificates and the circuit schedule go out the same day. If something related to our work misbehaves afterwards, the return visit is part of the job.

Before you book

Questions we get asked

The eight that come up most often on first contact.

Will you need to turn the power off?

For most work, yes — but only to the circuits involved, and only for as long as we need. Board changes mean the whole supply goes off, usually for two to three hours. We agree the timing with you first so freezers, routers and anyone working from home are not caught out.

How do you price the work?

Installation work is priced as a fixed figure against a written scope. Fault finding is priced for the diagnostic window, because nobody can honestly quote a repair before knowing what failed. Once the fault is found, you get the repair price in writing and decide from there.

My board is old. Do I actually need a new one?

Not always. Age alone is not a fault. What matters is whether the circuits have the right protection, whether the bonding is adequate, and what condition the wiring is in. We would rather test first and tell you the board has years left than sell you a change you don't need.

Can you work around a tenant's schedule?

Yes. Dawn slots and Saturday mornings exist mostly for tenanted properties. We ask for one contact who can confirm access, and we send the arrival window to both the owner and the occupier so there is no confusion on the morning.

My new LED lights flicker on the dimmer. Is that the lamp or the switch?

Usually the pairing rather than either part being faulty. Many dimmers were designed for filament loads and have a minimum wattage far above what LEDs draw. We test the combination on site and either change the dimmer for a trailing-edge type rated for the load, or recommend lamps that work with the one you have.

Does the work need notifying to anyone?

Some of it does — new circuits, consumer unit changes and charge points among them. Where notification is required we handle it as part of the job and the certificate follows. You do not need to make the submission yourself.

What should I do before you arrive?

Clear access to the board and to any sockets or fittings being worked on, move breakables out of the room, and make sure someone over eighteen can let us in and stay contactable. If you have previous certificates or a circuit schedule, have them to hand — it saves time we would otherwise spend tracing.

Can you fit an EV charger if my board has no spare ways?

Often yes. A full board does not rule it out; it just changes the method. Depending on the installation we either add a way, fit a separate enclosure next to the existing board, or recommend a board change if the protection is due anyway. The load assessment comes first either way, and we tell you which option applies before quoting.

Tell us the job and the window that suits

One short form. We reply with a written scope, a price and a confirmed arrival window before anyone travels out to you.

We use your details only to answer this enquiry and confirm the window.
